The Recent Mistakes widget is perfect for revisiting those “oops!” moments from your last Reviews session. Got a few questions wrong? Happens to the best of us! When you add this widget to your dashboard, all your recent mistakes are gathered in one place. That makes it easy for you to check out the missed subjects, practice their answers, or even redo entire lessons.

The goal of reviewing Recent Mistakes is to catch your mistakes within twenty-four hours, which makes you much more likely to remember them in future Reviews. After twenty-four hours, the items will disappear, so you’ll want to make sure to check them within that time window. It’s geared toward quick reinforcement, rather than last minute cramming.

Under your customization settings, you can display the widget in one of two modes: “Item List” or “Flashcard” style. In Item List mode, all your recent mistakes are lined up at the bottom, with your biggest troublemakers at the front so you know exactly where to focus.

This widget comes with two handy features: Extra Study for targeted practice and Redo Lessons for a full refresh.

In Flashcard mode, one mistake appears at a time, showing just the character. Here we have the 大 kanji:

The lower section is blurred out for you to try to think of the answer on your own. Once you’ve thought it over, you can click it to reveal the answer to see if you were correct.

You can use keyboard shortcuts after clicking the flashcard widget to navigate through items. Our wasd navigation works like this: a goes to the previous card, d goes to the next card, and s shows the meaning and reading on the current card.

The best way to use this widget is to check on it after each Reviews session. After looking at items you missed, try recalling the answers on your own, then use Extra Study or Redo Lessons if you need a little boost. Spending just a few minutes here can make a big difference over time, helping you turn those red answers into green ones.
