The Correct Percentage widget will show you the percentage of reviews you’ve gotten correct over any given time period. The goal of the widget is to get you inside what we call The Learning Zone.

You’re in The Learning Zone when you’re getting 85-95% of your reviews correct. This means you’re challenging yourself just enough for optimal learning.

We consider above 95% outside The Learning Zone for most people because it means you could take on more lessons to stretch your memory.

Sometimes, especially when you’re first starting out on WaniKani, you’ll find doing all your available lessons still puts you above 95% and outside The Learning Zone. That’s okay too! It doesn’t mean you’re not learning Japanese, but as you continue to learn more Japanese and more complex concepts, we want you to remember that it’s okay to get things wrong sometimes. Sometimes failure is the best way to learn.

Likewise, if you’re below 85%, we also consider you outside The Learning Zone.

Learning a new language is very difficult, so use this as a sign to slow down. Maybe scale back on your lessons so your brain doesn’t have so much to memorize all at once, or maybe take more time during Reviews. Practice recognizing each kanji for what it is, use our mnemonics to help you remember the reading and meaning, and don’t forget to try the Extra Study widget!

It’s also important to remember this percentage will change over time. Sometimes you’ll have a great day but a bad month or vice versa. Just because you’re outside The Learning Zone doesn’t mean you’re not learning Japanese. Rather, this widget is meant to help you reflect on your study methods and how effective they are for you.

Like some of our other customizable widgets, it can only display one time period at a time, but you can add multiple widgets simultaneously to see different periods at once. This can be helpful if you want to see your weekly performance over your monthly performance, for example. Whichever period you pick for the widget will reflect in the “Previous Period” percentage as well.
